My name is Shantel Hams. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri. I received my bachelors degree in Psychology at the University of Phoenix in 2015. I received my masters degree in Counseling Psychology at Webster University in 2019. I am currently pursuing my doctorate at Walden University in Human Development with an emphasis in Leadership and Administration. I begin my career seeing clients of all ages in 2018. During that time, I worked at a private practice called New Hope Counseling in Kansas City Missouri. I also worked as a Children’s Services Worker for the State of Missouri where I worked with families with youth who were in the custody of Children’s Division for abuse and neglect. While working for the Children’s Division, I developed a working knowledge for complex trauma’s.

In 2021 until now, I began working in substance abuse inpatient facilities as a therapist, treating substance abuse and co occurring mental health disorders. I provide psychoeducational groups on the neuroscience of addictions, conduct process groups teaching the recognition of triggers, cravings and urges , as well as provide individual counseling for substance abuse and most mental health disorders.

I have humbly gained the experience and ability to provide counseling services for a variety of populations, including juveniles and adults who are involved in the foster care system.

As a therapist, I will provide an empathetic, supportive and non judgmental therapeutic environments for my clients. I will help individuals process and manage their relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, trauma and additional mental health and substance use difficulties. I hope to be a resources to help my clients break their cycle of pain and discover their inner strength by setting goals to achieve lifelong happiness. Altogether, I hope to help you and/or your family members elicit positive change and thrive in you life and relationships.
